Log Cabin Mystery, Wanting your advice.

I have been working on this log cabin quilt this fall. I am at the point of needing to choose a setting. I am hoping for some opinions from all of you, my class is Saturday and I am so excited to see all the different quilts in class, but first I must sew this together!!!

I have put two pictures up for comment, I was also hoping for comments on borders. Do you think it needs to have borders? I am loving the applique borders I am seeing on pieced quilts and thought this would be one idea!
#1 Ribbon Star

#2 Fractured Star
OK let me know which setting is your favorite, and your ideas on borders!!
Thanks, Carrie

Wow! Carrie, you do great work!! They are both awesome pieces! I don't know much about quilting, but maybe a maybe a boarder with the darker colors.

What do you do with your pieces when you are done with them? Maybe I missed that somewhere. Do you give them as gifts, keep them or donate them? I love your work!

Love both... I like the ribbon star a bit more though. I think it brings out the contrast more. Beautiful work! As far as borders... boy that is tough! I think the quilt would work well with pretty much any kind of border.. small and simple, appliqued... the sky is the limit!

They are both gorgeous...I think I like the Ribbon Star just a little bit more though. I'd have to really think on the border...wouldn't want the border to take anything away form the center of the quilt.

I like the fractured star better and if you don't want to do a border thats fine!
what I might be tempted to do is just make a round of blocks in just the lights to let the stars be in the center of the quilt sort of "float" understand what I mean?
then the light log cabin blocks will become the border. Beautiful quilt.

I like the ribbon star...are you surprised? LOL. I love log cabin quilts without a border but will be anxious to see what you come up with. They both look great tho and I think you'll be happy either way.

I like them both, but ribbon star really stands out! Looks like the votes are about half and half though. Interesting how we all are a little different in our likes.

Beautiful job on your quilt!! I just ran across your name on Yellow Schoolhouse. I saw her bag of Sisters Coffee and had to see where she got it!! I live in Alfalfa! Fun to run across your blog. Anyway, I am not a quilt expert, but I like the fractured star best, that one caught my eye. I also think it would be beautiul with an appliqued border.....but not sure if that would take away from your overall design....I don't think so. Have fun with that!! Hope you will show the finished project.

I agree they are both lovely, but if you are adding a border, I prefer the ribbon star. Judy Martin did a log cabin book recently and has some great complimentary borders in there.

Both amazing, but I am leaning towards the Ribbon Star. I don't think it needs a border. So beautiful and by the way, nice to find your blog!!!

I know I am a little late but I like the fractured star. I think you should do a border. Applique would be great but so would a large floral in the same colors might work.

I love both! Fantastic color choice! I think a simple binding would be fine...then again depends on where you want to place this I guess.
